Newburgh, IN – Sherra Lynn (Gourley) Wilson, 66, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on September 12, 1953, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Floyd and Georgia Anne (Limberg) Gourley.
Sherra was a genuine, loyal, and trustworthy friend. After graduating from Castle High School in 1971, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Evansville, where she was also an Acette. In 1976 she began her teaching career at Castle Junior High School, where she also coached the girl’s track team. She finished her teaching career at Castle South Middle School, where she retired in 2010.
Sherra was a devoted and loving friend, who continued to enjoy monthly lunches with her fellow retired teachers. She was known not only to teach us school lessons, but life lessons also. She paid close attention to detail and had an impeccable memory. She had a passion caring for and feeding the wildlife around her home and loved decorating for Halloween. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by those whose lives she deeply touched.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Rick Wilson; brother, Mike Gourley (Billie); sisters-in-law, Robin Hogan (Bill) and Sue Cravens (Tom), as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and loving, best friends, Barb Verley and Susie Marinelli.
Sherra will be forever remembered for her love of the Gonzaga basketball and Colts football teams.
The family has respectfully requested a time of privacy for the time being. A celebration of life in honor of Sherra will be held at a later date.
