Newburgh, IN – James (Jim) Barnett passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on July 27, 2020 following an extended illness. He was the second of two children, born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Doris Shelton and Mattie Margaret (Lytton) Barnett in 1939.
Jim graduated from Bosse Highschool in 1957 and took a position with SIGECO shortly afterwards at the age of 18. He was a 50 year employee of Vectren and retired from the company in 2007.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Barnett; and his wife, Jane Ann Barnett.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Barnett of Newburgh; daughters Laura Barnett of Indianapolis, Lindsey (David) Wilkerson of Evansville, Shea (David) Unferferth of Evansville; step-daughter, Abra (Jason) Woomer of Effingham, Illinois; stepson, Jabe (Adrienne) Barbee of Arcadia, California; grandchildren, Ella, Alek, Sydney, Chase, Aila, Ella, Jackson, Tiffany, Melanie and Corey.
Jim was always up for a good joke or a prank. He enjoyed fishing and loved all types of music. He had a beautiful bass voice and through his years sang in a couple of different church quartets.
At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Warrick County Humane Society in honor of his cats, Buddy Boy and Livie Belle, whom he loved dearly.
The family also wishes to thank the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassion and assistance.
Simple Cremation Evansville is entrusted with care.
