Bonnie Heck passed away at her home in Evansville on January 10, 2021 after a short fight with cancer. She was born on July 22, 1944 in Indianapolis and lived almost her entire life in the Indy area. Her best gift to her children and her grandchildren is that she loved them and never stopped believing in them.
Bonnie worked for many years as a Lab Technician at Methodist Hospital and always amazed her kids with her knowledge of chemistry even though she had no formal education for chemistry. She also was a great lover of animals. On many occasions she nursed wounded wild animals to health…and seemed to have a big heart for sparrows. She had many animal companions over the years…and all were extremely loyal to her. Her favorite dog was Sheena…a daring puppy mill rescue. She clearly broke the law on that one, but we are glad that she did (we think it safe to now share this fact!). She was also an excellent cook, could keep a baseball scorebook with the best of them, loved camping and lake life, and canoed the Boundary Waters. She travelled and camped all around the country and especially loved her trip to Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet Maners, and her grandparents Fred and Letha Hager. Survivors who will miss her greatly are her two sons, Pat (Amy) Heck and Dan Heck; former daughter-in-law Lisa Ferro Heck; grandchildren Daniel Ferro (Lisa Stephenson Ferro), Stephen Heck, Danielle Heck (Audree Waterhouse), Caleb Heck, Elizabeth Heck (Valerie Orozco), Jason Heck, and Jared Jones (Jayna Rowland) and her great grandchildren, Craigery Stout, Atlas Ferro, and Odin Ferro. Joanie Walker may not have been a blood-relative or related formally, but she played a great and important role in Bonnie’s life and we are thankful for her.
A Virtual Memorial Service will be held on a future date in lieu of a funeral for family and close friends.
Simple Cremation Evansville is entrusted with care.
