Doris Glenda Stephenson Smith

Glenda passed away on 2/27/2021 in Evansville, Indiana at the age of 74 from congestive heart failure.  Her niece, Diana Steeley Meno, was by her side.  Glenda had many passions and hobbies, and a heart for babies and animals.  She loved reading, listening to her vinyl record collection, sewing, dining out and sitting on her front porch.  She loved her mother and father’s front porch swing, and she enjoyed telling stories about it. It hung on her porch as it did theirs.

Glenda was a homemaker for most of her life.  She lovingly adopted three of her sister’s (Sharon Stephenson Kunkel) children.  As the children got older, Glenda got her real estate and appraiser licenses.  She was also a Notary for the state of Indiana. She owned a bridal shop for a few years.  Glenda could do anything to which she set her mind.

Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Smith, her parents, James “Glenn” Stephenson and Margie “Doris” Stephenson, her siblings, Teddy Bennett, David Bennett, Sharon Stephenson Kunkel, Carol Stephenson Jarboe and nieces and nephews Brett Bennett, Tina Bennett Morales, Gary Wayne Jarboe and Susan “Maxine” Jarboe Gibson.

Glenda is survived by her daughters, Donna Smith Wiley (Alan), Glenda “Michelle” Smith Wildman and Stacey Smith; sisters, Marcia Stephenson Spainhoward and Norma Stephenson Gilliland (David); sister in law, Barbara Dillon Bennett.  Glenda was also survived by her late husband’s children Vickie Smith Warren (John), Lesli Smith Spice (Gary), Gregory Smith (Kandy) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Glenda had a passion for donating to special charities.  She gave generously to St. Jude Hospital for Children, Riley Hospital for Children, Boys & Girls Club of America, Feeding America, The Red Cross, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife, and Veteran’s Association of America.

Glenda did not want a memorial service.  Please feel free to honor her life by donating to one of her chosen charities or foundations.
