Concetta “Connie” Martin

Concetta “Connie” Martin passed peacefully from this world on 1/20/2022 at Deaconess Hospital, Midtown in Evansville, IN, after a brief illness. She was a new resident to the Evansville area, moving here after being widowed this summer when her husband, Donald Dane Martin, passed away on June 9, 2021. She joined her daughter, Laurel, and her son-in-law, Randy, in their home so they could care for her and enjoy her company. Even though she was only with them for five months, the stories told, and the life experienced in that time will be cherished by all those who spent time with her there.

Connie lived a long and blessed life, full of many different people, places, and experiences. She was married to Timothy Shaver in 1951 and had her son Timothy with him. Some time after they divorced, she wed James (“Jim”) Stowe House in 1963. In that union, she gained a stepdaughter, Kelly. Connie and Jim had a daughter, Laurel, in 1965. After Jim died in 1980, Connie was reacquainted with a dear friend (Don Martin) and they eventually fell in love. They married in 1989. That union brought her 4 adult children whom she loved like her own: Debbie Clixby (Gerry), Daneen Douglas (Gene), Dane Martin, and Don Martin (Cheri).

In her lifetime, she always found time to care for others. She was involved in countless charitable groups and fundraisers. She loved to entertain her friends and family and, true to her Sicilian decent, was a phenomenal cook. She took business classes after high school, and pursued work in manufacturing, sales, and insurance and company benefit plan sales. She retired from Lincoln National to help her husband, Don, with the administrative side to his home inspection and building business. In 2001, they moved to a beautiful home that he had designed and built in Islamorada, FL. They enjoyed a decade of beautiful weather, great friends, fishing, and fun before moving to Charlotte to be closer to family.

Concetta was preceded in death by her parents, Matteo and Concetta Bommarito, as well as her sisters Margaret, Tina, and Louise, and her brother, Pat.

She is survived by her son, Tim (Cheryl Glass), daughter, Laurel (Randy), and her sister, Mary Castiglione. All her stepchildren survived her. She is also survived by several grandchildren: Michael Shaver (Lynn), Kristin Shaver, Tyler Hart (Amanda), and Bryce Hart, Max and Alex Clixby, Robin Lamerson (Steve), Kevin Douglas, Brian Douglas (Jordan), Allan Douglas (Christine), Kathryn O’John (Nick), Austin Douglas, Michael Martin (Tara), Katie Peterson (Devin), and Nathan and Lizzy Martin. She also was blessed with precious great-grandchildren: William Hedges, Anthony and Alexis Shaver, and her most recent great-granddaughter, Isla Jo Hart. Several nieces, and a nephew also survive her.

Concetta will be cremated, and her family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
