Andrew Walter Scamman, 53, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on April 19, 2023 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN, after an extremely short battle with metastatic liver cancer.
Andy was born on September 11, 1969 to Donald W & Vinie M Scamman in Exeter, NH. After graduating high school, his desire to fly helicopters led to civilian flight training. In order to secure his dream job of flying EMS missions, Andy gathered flight hours flying tours in Alaska and Hawaii, where he gained many memories and met special friends. After earning his flight hours, Andy started his career as an EMS helicopter pilot – his dream. His dream ultimately led him to Evansville, Indiana, where he met the girl at Welborn Lifeflight in 1996. Married on March 5, 1998 to Amy Lynn Roney, they went on to fly together on Lifeflight until the birth of their daughter, Hannah Brielle Scamman, on September 2, 1999. Besides Welborn Lifeflight, Andy also proudly flew for AirEvac LifeTeam and Arch Air Medical before transitioning into the realm of management for Air Methods Corp. Andy recently loved his time working in the healthcare field serving as Security Team Lead at Deaconess Henderson. He considered himself a “Dad” and friend to the many employees he encountered on a daily basis. His smiles, laughter, jokes, and one-liners will leave an imprint on the lives of all he touched!
Andy was unwaveringly selfless, a true gentleman, and beacon of light to everyone who knew him. He was determined to provide for his wife and daughter to give them the life he knew they deserved. Anyone who knew Andy knows that his family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he was always sharing with those around him. Andy was unendingly proud of Hannah; she was his whole world and best friend.
Andy was also a passionate black belt martial artist and could often be found at Integrity Martial Arts in Princeton, IN with his Brother in Arms Isaac Birch when his health allowed. He was also a Founding Member of CCRT (Civilian Crisis Response Team) Indiana and Executive Director of Disaster Services Branch of CCRT alongside JR Grounds. Many of his weekends were spent in training and enjoying time with various teams and instructors.
Andy was preceded in death by his father Donald W Scamman; maternal grandparents, Sherman and Pauline Chester; and paternal grandparents Richard & Barbara Scamman. He is survived by wife Amy Lynn Scamman & daughter Hannah Brielle Scamman of Fort Branch, mother Vinie May Scamman of Fort Branch, brother Rilio Morsch of Seattle, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family requests that if anyone wishes to make a memorial contribution, that they be made to Linda E. White Hospice House. There will be a memorial/celebration of life at Deaconess Henderson in the near future.

We are so sorry for your loss. Like the excerpt mentioned: Andy was funny—and fun to be around. I remember when I was a kid, I’d see his truck in the driveway at 3 Webster Ave and race over to Grammy and Grampy’s (Sherman and Pauline Chester) house to visit with cousin Andy—cause you knew he was going to make you laugh. I hadn’t seen him in a while, and didn’t know he had been battling health issues, but I will always cherish those memories from back then in Exeter. Prayers and condolences to all.

This is so sad, out-of-the-natural-order of things, losing a child must be the most painful experience . . .in my head he’s still in my 6th-grade music classroom – but he’s had a full life ! – and (as a volunteer hospice singer) I hope he’s also had a peaceful and calm end, knowing how well he’s been loved . . .

Andy was such a bright star to all around. His happiness and light shown brightest when in the service of others. I was blessed to have met him at work at Henderson. There was never a time when he didn’t smile or joke around. I feel, while he is in a better, more peaceful state, the word has lost an angel here on Earth and selfishly this saddens me. I will never forget the life he brought to his work and the staff everytime we saw him passing by.
To Amy and Hannah, thank you for sharing him with us. My condolences may not be enough but I hope they bring you peace in knowing the man who kept us safe at work will not be forgotten.

Andy piloted WEHT’s Newscopter 25 sometimes and I always knew I was in for a good time as a news videographer when I got to go up with him.
Back then, he’d land the Chopper on station property and pick us up. It was an open field with one, lone, tree.
Taking off one day, Andy clipped the tree with the rotors. Here I am, 20 feet in the air, door off on my side, leaves swirling about, and greatly concerned when Andy casually gets on the headphones:
“Sorry about that…just a little tactical tree trimming as we take off.”
I laughed and, as always, put my faith in his abilities.
While my times working with him were limited, they were memorable. He was always upbeat, laughing and joking which was much needed in news.
I’m just learning of his passing and want to offer my condolences to all.
Thanks Andy, for the flights, the fun, and the memories.
Rodney (Air Methods KY Pilot) says
Andy was a great mentor and leader and was greatly respected by his peers and fellow aviators. He is flying high with blue skies and a tailwind.

Andy and I were best friends for a while in grade school.
I remember lots of goofy laughter and always having fun. Going on ‘patrol’at night around town and staying out of the grasp of “One Adam Stratham” Good times at the Stratham Fair with your grandma slipping us all the burgers we could eat while watching the horse pulls.
And let’s not forget Tigers Baseball. All us Cub rejects coached by your dad.
Sleep overs with Andy,Chris,& Charlie were formative.
Peace.
