Bessie Louise Phillips, 87, of Evansville, Indiana passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
Bessie was born in Marked Tree, Arkansas on November 21, 1935 to the late David A Turner and Mabel Dean Turner. She attended Humes High School in Memphis, TN. Bessie was a very dedicated wife and mother. She was the center of our family. Bessie supported her husband while he was in college for 7.5 years and building a medical practice, all while raising 6 children. She was protective, compassionate, loving, extraordinary, strong, and fiercely loyal to her family. She could do anything she set her mind to – from sewing clothes, turning furniture into pieces of art, and making our house a home. She was a fantastic “from scratch” cook – she loved having people sit at their table and enjoy her food! She was an enthusiastic tennis fan (her favorite player was Rafael Nadal), loved to fish, play clabber and dance, was an avid reader and her happy place was Las Vegas in front of a video poker machine with a Parliament 100 in her hand. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Bessie is leaving behind a loving husband of 68 years, Robert E Phillips. She was the most loving and dedicated mother to her six children Robert “Bobby” Phillips Jr, Laura “Lynn” Epperson, Cynthia “Cindy” Miller (Philip), Kimberly “Kim” Bolling (Brad), Debra “Debbie” Barnes (David) and preceded in death by Mark Stephen Phillips. She is preceded in death by her sister Nell Perkins and brother Billy Wayne Douglas.
There will be a graveside service held for immediate family only.

Some of the best time I’ve ever had were spent with aunt Bessie, learning from her and admiring the very loving and strong woman she was, and she always was so fun to be with. I will miss her terribly, as I know everyone will. I only hope to be like her, and will never forget the wonderful times spent with her. I love you always Aunt Bessie.
