Basil Hugh Thompson, 99, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born on November 15, 1924 in Malvern, England to the late Percy and Doris (Hatfield) Thompson.
Basil’s passion was the world of racing cars. He loved watching Formula 1 Racing and belonged to the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and Sir Brit Car Club of Evansville. He had served in the Royal Air Force in World War II, which had always remained a great interest of his as he did talks on the Battle of Britain. He worked at the Evansville Courier and Press for 38 years as an advertising executive and contributed many articles on sports car racing.
He is survived by his sons, Brent Thompson (Wendie) and Kane Thompson; his grandchildren, Brady Thompson, Jeremy Miller, Gary Miller, Jeremy Thompson, Cory Thompson and Kasey Dockery; his great-grandchildren, Atrayu Thompson, Ivy Miller, Kelsey Thompson, Owen Dockery and Maddie Dockery as well as his brother, Brian Thompson of Weymouth, England.
Basil is preceded in death by his wife, Millie Thompson; his sister, Barbara Thompson and his daughter in law, Connie Thompson.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff on the 5th floor of Deaconess Hospital, Linda E. White Hospice House, and Solarbron Nursing Home.
