Jeffers E. Smith, known as “Jeff” by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at the age of 72, surrounded by his family.
Born on January 4, 1952, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Jeff successfully ran his own business, JSE Excavating. His hobbies and passions revolved around his work, and he was fortunate to spend his life doing what he loved. A 1972 graduate of Riverside Military Academy, Jeff was also proud of achieving his black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1988.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, LeAnn, his children, Chad, Amity, Clinton, and Jared, and several grandchildren, including Coltyn, whom he and LeAnn were raising. Jeff also leaves behind his brothers, Robert J. III, Eric, Tim, Jack, and his sister, Karen Armstrong, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. II and Betty, and his sister, Cindy.
Honoring Jeff’s wishes, he will be cremated without a formal service. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support during this difficult time. They also wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of River Oaks and Ascension St. Vincent’s Hospital, whose care and compassion during Jeff’s final days were a source of comfort and peace. They invite those who knew Jeff to remember and celebrate his life in their own ways, keeping his spirit alive in their hearts and memories.
