Carol Sue Parmenter, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 8th with her family by her side.
She was born on January 13, 1943, to the late Barrett and Deloris Sanders (Mayes) in Evansville.
She was a graduate of Bosse High School and the University of Evansville where she studied education.
She taught reading at the elementary level in Dayton, OH for many years.
Carol also worked for the Department of Child Services for over 30 years. She was a trusted mentor to many over her years there. Her love and dedication to keeping children safe was known to all who worked with her.
Her co-workers affectionately called her “Giggles”.
She was a lifelong member of Olivet Community Church where she had previously held the position of Deacon and Elder. Her mission trips to Mexico with the youth of the church brough her much joy and happiness.
After her retirement she enjoyed gardening (it was her therapy), feeding and watching the birds, and caring for the neighborhood cats.
Carol faced many challenges in her life, but she faced them with courage and strength. Her love and faith in our Lord showed in all that she did. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughter Michelle Hunter (Justin) of Owensboro, KY and her fur baby Gabbie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Carol’s family would like to give a special thank you to the ICU nurses at Acension Hospital for caring for her with love and dignity in her final days. Also, to her neighbors Emily , Steve, Marie and Kenny for being so helpful and kind these past few months and making sure that the things that were important to her were done when she was not physically able to do so.

I remember Carol as funny and caring and quite the spitfire for someone her size. I enjoyed working with Carol. And, I thought enough of her to let her have two of my fur babies who she promptly renamed, enjoyed and treated royally.

Michelle, I remember your mom as always being so gracious when I was over for a sleepover or when she helped us on adventures like going to the New Kids concert;)
At the time, I admired her for the difficult job she had as a social worker, and after 25 years as a high school teacher, I know a lot more about the challenges and complexities of that job, and admire her even more.
I always loved the close relationship you had with each other. What a great mom!
I know the blessing of having a great mom and the sorrow of losing one. May faith, family, and friends carry you through, and may the days ahead be blessed with sweet memories and the knowledge she will remain close always.
Kathleen Miller says
So sorry, Michelle. Carol was called home onDavid’s birthday. They knew each other from Olivet forever. I’d like to think he was there to help welcome her HOME! She was a sweet, happy little lady who loved you dearly!

Michelle: We just learned of Carol’s passing. We are so sorry to have read about this and missed the celebration of her life at the church. We were neighbors of your grandparents and enjoyed knowing them very much. We also knew Carol in her work with DPW/DCS. May God bless Carol, you and your family. Ted and Rachelle Gore
