DORIS RUTH (WOOLLARD) TOMES
Evansville, IN. – Doris Ruth (Woollard) Tomes, 82, of Evansville, Indiana passed away on October 1, 2018 at Walnut Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center.
Doris was born on August 29, 1936 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Forrest A. and Lida Cecelia (Bobay) Woollard.
She was a graduate of Mooreland High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Evansville, her Master’s degree from Western Kentucky University, and her Rank 1 from Murray State. She taught 3rd grade in the Henderson County Kentucky School System for 25 years before retiring. Doris also worked at the men’s department at Sears. She was an avid fan of motorsports and enjoyed watching NBA games. She was an accomplished gardener with an incredible green thumb and loved working in the dirt.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Denise Hanes and her husband, Ron of Newburgh, IN; granddaughters, Jill Howard and her husband, Nathan of Calhoun, KY; Tina Adkins and her husband, Gabe of Auburn, KY; great-grandchildren, Mason Howard, Emily Howard, Owen Adkins, Parker Adkins, Duncan Adkins, Maggie Adkins; siblings, John Woollard and his wife, June of New Castle, IN; Gusty Monaghan and her husband, Mike of Hagerstown, IN; Paul Woollard and his wife, Pat of Middletown, IN; Vernie Woollard of Wichita, KS.
A private family burial will be held at a later date at Brick Church Cemetery in Hagerstown, Indiana.
