Evansville, IN – Grace Louise Pfender, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 15, 2019.
Grace was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, especially cruises, and shopping for her beloved family. She was a long-term member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Grace was born in Central City Kentucky on March 16, 1929. She has lived in Evansville since 1941. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Tom Pfender. Her sister Emma, her sons Bill Smith (Elvie) and Keith Smith (Rita), and daughters Phyllis Lehman, Lauranell Spece (Tom), Kristi Newcomb (Russell Banks) and Melody Waggoner. Grandchildren Lori Baehl (Mike), Jessica Vowells, Debbie Cardwell, Julie Tilsworth (Todd), Shalonda Newcomb Perkins (John), Heatherly Hite (Jenny Rattray), Joshua Smith (April), Priscilla Lakin, Zach Waggoner, JP Newcomb, Jacob Waggoner, Hannah Grace Newcomb, Kaelie Waggoner (Presley McCarty), Madeline Newcomb. Great grand-children Shelbi and Seth Brown, McKenna Stahl, Madison Cardwell, Autumn, Avery and Ashtyn Tilsworth, Ethan, Izzy and Katie Smith, Aubrey, Gavin, Maddox and Luke Smith, Declan and Quade Rattray, Ledger and Stella Perkins, Ayva Grace Newcomb Elliot. Her brother in law Steve Pfender (Nancy), Sisters in law Carol Jernigan (Jerry) and Mary McMurty (Logan) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving daughter in law, Vicki Smith and her beloved cousin Marcidean Gaston.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on Washington Avenue in Evansville, Indiana, on Thursday January 17th from 3pm-6pm
