Boonville, IN – Gus David Massey, 85, of Boonville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Cypress Grove Nursing Home in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born on January 28, 1938 in Talihina, Oklahoma to the late Thomas and Sophia (Moats) Massey.
Gus loved the military, in which he proudly served in the United States Army and Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0777 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Later in life he enjoyed gardening and being a flea market merchant where he made many close friends. Gus also held records for horse racing in Utah.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Morris) Massey; his children, Carl Massey (Marla), Tracy Paul (Andy), and Allen Smith (Gina); his grandchildren, Daniel Thompson (Stephanie), Brittany Reibold (Tim), Brandon Paul (Katie), Dakota Wheelock (Kayla), Dylan Wheelock, Jessica Smith, Austin Smith, Kim Smith, and Kyle Smith; his great-grandchildren, Arthur Thompson, Sawyer Reibold, Tate Reibold, Silas Wheelock, Max Wheelock and his sister, Marilyn Dossey.
Gus is preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy “Bear” Massey; his siblings, Tommy Massey, Buck Massey, Jay Massey, June Holt, Lyida Manual, Betty Duke and Nelly Tice.
A graveside with military honors is being planned for a later date.
The family would like to give special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Cypress Grove Nursing Home, nurses April, Amber and Rhonda as well as his special friends who called him faithfully, Carl Jones, Bradley Holt, Billy King, Eddy Tice, Jim Crown, Ricky Crow and Jim Palmqoist.
