Yvonne Boyer died comfortably on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 after 78 years on this earth. She was a simple, very intelligent country woman who lived a great life and had a good death. She was generous to a fault and will be missed by all who knew her.
Born Loretta Yvonne Vanzant to Harold and Mary, she was raised in Point Township and spent almost her entire adult life in Mount Vernon. She was well-loved by her family and many friends, most of whom were at her bedside during her final days.
Yvonne was a generous soul who would do anything for her family and friends. That selfless caring for others is ultimately what defines her life and legacy. She would have laughed and denied it if anyone described her as Christ-like or a saint, but in many important ways, she lived her life consistent with those high standards.
She loved to play games of chance, golf, go boating, and spot shoot. She made many trips out west, both to Las Vegas, where she loved to play games of chance; and to California to visit her cousins Dee and Betty. She was an active member of the Moose Lodge and raised significant money for the Moose Heart and Moose Haven charities. She worked for 25 years at General Electric and was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church where she was the organist for many years. She was renowned as a baker and candy maker. In her later years, she became a computer expert and earned the nickname “Ms. Fixit” as she helped everyone with their computer ills.
Yvonne will live forever in the memories of those who knew her. She is survived by her son Michael Webster and his wife Jocelyne, her daughters Diane Hancock (husband Chris) and Mary Schmidt; her grandchildren Kylee, Chloe, Jack, and Brock, and her great grandchildren Zeplyn and Morrison, as well as close friends Ann Raines, Nancy Reeves, Linda Munroe, Paul Gross, and her many friends at the Moose and Cloverleaf, where she enjoyed her later years.
A celebration of her life will be held from 2 pm to 7 pm, with a memorial service at 7 pm on September 22 at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 602 Mulberry Street in Mount Vernon, Indiana.
