Margaret “Claire” (Honse) Rohleder passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 98.
Claire was born on November 10, 1926, at the family farm in Dubois, Indiana to William and Nora Friedman.
Claire was married to Robert “Bob” Rohleder in 1951. Together, they had one son, Blair.
Claire believed in the value of hard work and was determined to work for as long as she could. She retired from Jasper Wood Products at the age of 74 after 50 years of service.
Not being able to stay put for very long after retiring, Claire became a volunteer at Memorial Hospital as a ‘Candy Striper”. This was a perfect fit as she never knew a stranger. To Claire, everyone was a friend.
Claire spent most years of her life cooking, gardening, sewing, canning and crocheting. She became known for her crochet blankets that she shared with family and friends alike, an extension of her generosity and kind heart.
Claire will always be known for her hard work ethic, her perseverance in life, her hospitality and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob in 1998 and son, Blair in 2020; 2 sisters, Ruth Fleischman (alongside her husband, AW) and Judy Chenault; 2 brothers, Harry Friedman (alongside his wife, Caroline) and Clyde Friedman (alongside his wife, Janet); brother-in-law, Richard Dedrick; nephew, Tim Friedman (alongside his wife, Kelly); and niece, Kara Fleischman.
Claire is survived by her granddaughter Lydia (Jordan) Saylor of Dale; three great-grandchildren – Judah, Eloise and Ariane; her caregiver and dear friend, Ann (Bill) Phillips of Santa Claus; brother, Bud (Barbara) Friedman of Dubois; sister, Anna Dedrick of French Lick; brother-in-law, Jim Chenault of Louisville, KY; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22nd at 11am ET at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper with a lunch to follow at the church.
