Newburgh, IN – Nancy Lee Chreste, 85, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Newburgh Healthcare in Newburgh. She was born on September 8, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late William and Constance (Tracy) Chreste.
Nancy was very talented and passionate. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at Evansville College where she was a former President of the Chi Omega Sorority. She acquired her Master’s degree from Purdue University. Before graduating from Purdue, Nancy went to work for the F.B.I. where she worked for several years before becoming a juvenile probation officer in Evansville. She dedicated her life to helping others through Swirca fundraising and helped others who had disabilities even though she became totally deaf in her 50’s. Nancy ended her career assisting people with disabilities working at Sycamore Services.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Evansville, Indiana, enjoyed gardening and dedicated her life to helping people and rescuing animals.
Nancy is survived by her sister, Cindy Tubbs (Jack); niece, Jacquelyn Gonterman (Dr. Ryan) and her nephew, Jon Tubbs (Cory).
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William Chreste, Jr. and Edward Chreste (Myra).
Following Nancy’s cremation, a private burial will take place at a later date.
