Neal was a brother, uncle, great uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was killed in a motor vehicle accident on April 28, 2024. He was in the back seat and was ejected and lost his life. His dog Sadie lived and ran from the accident site and we are still looking for her. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on January 6, 1959 to the late Jerry and Marilou Vaughan, but grew up mostly in Millersburg, Indiana.
Neal loved singing and taught himself how to play his guitar (YouTube videos). He was a joke teller and a pretty good story teller. He loved just sitting around shooting the “you know what” with his friends. He always wore 2 watches and his motto was if one broke he always had a backup. He had a memory like an elephant and was always the one who would remember things that happened in his and his siblings’ childhood. When he was younger, he raced motocross with our dad. He and his grandson Mike Berfanger were like 2 peas in a pod, best buds, peas and carrots, they went everywhere together as well as Sadie. Neal was a simple man with just a simple plan. He did not want or need much to be happy.
He is preceded in death by our parents and brother Kent Vaughan.
Surviving are his sister Dawn Fields, brother Nick Vaughan (Cheryl), niece Essie Summers and great nephew Ryan Brown, great nephew Austin Whitledge several other nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great nephews as well as his grandchild Mike and great grandchild Leland.
I want to mention the people that were close to Neal, Judy Borst and Mike, his grandson who treated Neal with the utmost respect and kindness, as well as one of the family. Our family can’t thank you enough for all the love that you showed for our brother. Neal was one of a kind for sure.
Thank you for ALL your efforts looking daily for Sadie. Neal we won’t give up looking for your best friend! Neal you will be greatly missed, but NEVER forgotten. We love you.
Mike (his grandson) wanted to share: grandpa was a person everyone would want to meet, it didn’t matter if he knew you or not, he would give you the shirt off his back. He loved playing guitar, hanging out with buddies and family, especially his grandson Michael and great grandson Leland. Grandpa also loved his dog Sadie, she was his everything.
