Roderick Rayburn Sugg passed away on July 7, 2023, at the age of 78 from injuries sustained in a fall. Rod was born on New Year’s Day in 1945 in Evansville, Indiana.
He attended Henderson City High School and joined the army at 17, serving a tour of duty in Korea. After his discharge from the army, he had a varied career including telephone and cable line repair, often working in areas damaged by natural disasters, including in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Rod loved people and never met a stranger. He had many pastimes, including travel, antiquing and flea marketing, and skydiving. Rod also had his private pilot’s license. He loved hanging out at The Gathering Place in Henderson, Kentucky, where he was a card shark and pool hustler. He was inducted into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
Rod is survived by his long-time companion, Brenda Duncan. He is also survived by his four siblings: Jim Gibson, Steve Gibson (Steve Wylie), John Sugg (Susan), and Mary Pat Anderson (Andy), and by many nieces and nephews: Stephanie Gibson, Jamie Venable (JP), Luke Hargis, Slade Hargis (Katie), Amy Owsley (Chuck), and Allie Denning (Andy). He was preceded in death by his father Rayburn Sugg and his mother Lois Lee Berry Gibson as well as his son Christopher and his sister Rebecca Cassidy.
There will be no services at Rod’s request. A family gathering to inter Rod’s ashes will be held at a future date.

My most deepest condolences and sympathy to his family and his extended friends. Rod aka “Hot Rod” was a close friend. I worked with him over the last twenty years. I was a great guy. He could make anyone laugh to tears. We were working in New Orleans and he was doing Karate moves in slow motion and someone asked him why he was doing them so slow.. he said “Im in fast mode.” He called me Jdwag. I enjoyed our times together he could lift anyones spirits. Rod, Ibwant to thank you for being my friend. Also Thank you for your service and scarifice to our countey. God Speed sir. Till Valhalla
