Sandra Kay (Combs) Welch, 72, born July 17, 1949 in Pikeville Kentucky passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Sandy, known to some as Mom, Mamie, Sissy; but to all who had the privilege of knowing her called her friend. She was destined to bring joy & laughter to everyone around her and did so graciously with every breath she took! Besides immensely loving her family & friends, she enjoyed shopping with her best friend Pat, leisurely riding her bike; porch swings; collecting all things rooster and her favorite fur baby, Bo.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Mary & Al Combs of Newburgh, IN. Survived by her daughter, Misty Striplin of Evansville, IN; her son, Darrel Embry of Newburgh, IN; her adoring grandkids, Ian & Maci Striplin; her brother Brent Staton of Jacksonville, FL; her brother Alexander Combs of Harvard, MA; her Aunt Eula Salisbury of Titusville, FL; along with several cousins, nieces & nephews.
Her grandchildren were her world and the love they shared was undeniable. Ian says that she was more than a grandma, more than a person to everyone and his first best friend. Maci says that she was loved by all, was kindhearted and the queen of cooking.
A celebration of life will be held at Pine Company, located at 15901 Petersburg Road, Evansville, IN (formerly known as Kingmen’s Event Facility) on Tuesday, June 7th from 12:00pm-5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please just send a kind thought about her to her children/grandchildren.
Rest Easy Mom…you’ve left your mark here for all eternity!

We didn’t see each other often but as out of state cousins we did enjoy our reunions. We would get together with our other cousin Kathy Mullins Martin and always had a good time. The last time I saw Sandra was in Pikeville for our Aunts funeral but she hadn’t changed since childhood. Happy, laughing and always loving. My condolences to her family exspecially her daughter Misty and her grandchildren. You could see they were her life. Thoughts will be with you Tuesday. Sorry I couldn’t be there.

I’m so very sorry for your loss!!! Sandy had so much love in her heart that she shared with everyone that crossed her path. She was one of a kind and will forever be loved by me and my family! She brought light to my families darkest days and we knew we could rely on her to tell us it was all going to work out! She was always right! Words can’t express how thankful I am that I was blessed to have such an amazing friend in her and we loved her so much. Sandra is now at peace and is enjoying her time in heaven with her loved ones including her fur babies!! From my family to yours, we love you and will miss you dearly my beautiful friend.
